i accidentally deleted a conversation on my imessages and want to recover the conversation on my iphone . i deleted it prior to having the ios 16 update. how can i go

You cannot. Once deleted, messages are erased permanently.
If you have a device backup that contains the messages, and you do not use messages in iCloud, you may be able to recover by factory resetting your device and restoring using the backup that contains the messages. You'll lose anything new since the last backup but you might get your messages back.
