audio for ipad mini6

The type C to audio jack I bought at Power mac center is not working! The sound would play initially for a few seconds then go static then complete stunning silence! When this happens, whatever I'm playing (be it a streaming movie, a youtube video or music) STOPS as well. What gives?! I want my money back!!!
