Apple TV remote 4K won't turn on Sony TV?

Got the new Apple TV 4K on 11/3 and synced it with our Sony Bravia and everything worked fine. Now every morning (4) when I use the Siri remote it only turns on the Apple TV and not the Sony TV. I've had to use the Sony remote for that. Once I do that that I can turn both devices on and off throughout the day using the Siri remote as long as it's within a few hours. After an extended period/overnight I have to use the TV remote to turn on the TV, help please?

Hi BBAloha,

Ensure HDMI-CEC is turned on in your TV settings, as that is the feature that allows the remote to talk with the TV to power it on and off. Check out that suggestion here:

If you can't control your TV or receiver with your Apple TV Remote - Apple Support

If volume, power, or HDMI selection don't automatically work for you, you might need to program your remote for volume or turn on HDMI-CEC on your TV or receiver.

"Make sure that HDMI-CEC is on

If some features don't work, check the following:

  1. Make sure that your TV or receiver offers HDMI-CEC support. For help, ask the TV manufacturer or check the manual.
  2. Check that HDMI-CEC is turned on in the menu of your TV or receiver. Use the remote that came with your equipment. Since manufacturers often have different names for HDMI-CEC, look for a setting that ends in "Link" or "Sync." Here are some examples:
  • LG: SimpLink
  • Philips: EasyLink
  • Samsung: Anynet+
  • Sharp: Aquos Link
  • Sony: BRAVIA Sync"

Cheers.
