Automatic messages when driving

I’m having an issue after upgrading to the new iPhone. When I’m in my truck for work, the message “I’m driving. -Sent from my car” goes out to anyone texting me. It doesn’t matter if I’m moving or parked. It’s not Apple CarPlay, just Bluetooth. Under Bluetooth devices I’ve even changed the type of device to speaker in hopes it helped. I’ve reached out to Apple Support multiple times. No one can fix this issue. Focus is off! It’s not shared across devices. There’s a potential of me losing money when this happens. I get texts for jobs, and dispatchers are getting tired of opening their mailbox to see my generic response to them. I’ve factory reset this phone as well. Still didn’t help. Is this a bug for these new phones??

Hello all-other-usernames-are-taken,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you have an interesting issue with the Driving Focus coming on unexpectedly. Also that you've checked multiple settings and even mentioned working with our support teams directly. Since we aren't quite sure what our advisors walked you through specifically, we'll mention some steps to see if that helps. First, we have some questions to clarify a few details.

  1. When you check to see that Driving Focus is on, are you able to disable it or even Do Not Disturb completely?
  2. Have you tested with Bluetooth disabled under Settings > Bluetooth?
  3. Have you also tried setting a specific Driving Focus that you have to activate manually?
  4. Do you use a VPN app or have a managed profile on your iPhone?
  5. Did our support advisors have you backup, erase, then set your device up as new?

For the last question, we ask because that could help rule out a possible underlying cause.

For steps, we'd recommend making sure you are on the latest iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if iOS 16.1.1 needs to be installed. If you do use a VPN app, we'd recommend disabling it or removing it temporarily and testing. Also test your device, while in your vehicle, but with Bluetooth disabled.

Reply back with those details and we'll continue from there.

Best regards.

Go to Settings/General/VPN & Device Management. Do you see a company-issued profile? If so, that gives the company control of many of the security features of your phone.

You mentioned Outlook. If the associated email account is MS Exchange then that gives the company the ability to manage your phone’s security and safety features.

Thanks for the response. I am running the latest iOS and I do not use a VPN. If I have, Bluetooth turned off, which I have been doing to avoid this issue, there will not be an automated response sent to the sender. To work your key points:

1: focus is not on so there’s no need to disable it.I have checked to make sure Focus isn’t on any of my other devices, so it’s not shared. I have also tried to turn it on and manually allow all contacts to get through, and I still get the automated responses sent.

2: yes, I’ve even changed the type of device under the Bluetooth setting to every device type option possible, and automated text responses are sent for each option. Once again, the only time it won’t send an automated reply is when Bluetooth is completely disabled.

3: yes, I’ve tried to manually allow notifications to come through, but I only get what is been mentioned above.

4: no, I don’t use a VPN, and this is not an enterprise phone. This is a personal phone and I am the owner.

5: the last couple advisors had me reset my privacy and network settings, but I have not hard reset my phone yet. I’ve never had this issue before with upgrading. Thank you for your insight, please let me know if there’s anything else I can do with this new information. Case # 101834877772
