Your iPhone is likely locked to your current carrier. If you want to switch to another carrier, your "old" carrier must release the lock on the phone.


In most cases, your current carrier is under no obligation to remove the lock.


Call your current carrier and ask if it is possible to have the lock on your phone removed.
