"this device left behind" - But it's not

I just bought an Apple Watch 8 and upgraded the paired iPhone to iOS 16. Now when I leave the house with the iPhone and wearing the watch, I get an alert that "This device has been left behind..." I can't quite remember the rest. It's happened three times now.

Neither of them is left behind. Is it referring to something else?

On your iphone either go to Find My app or go to Settings, [your name], and look at your list of devices. Are you leaving one of those at home? A previous model watch maybe?

No I would not pair the old one, just make sure it is turned off.

If you did this

then it should be unpaired and off your account which it looks like it is.

Unless you do the journey again and take note of what device it thinks you left behind it could be any of them.

Thank you for the answer. Find My app has all my devices, including a desktop, iPad, airPods, etc. But not my old Apple Watch.

I see my old Apple Watch still listed in my blue tooth list. The "Forget this device" option isn't available. It refers me to the Apple Watch app where I only see my new watch. I charged my old watch, and it wants to be paired again. I think maybe I need to remove it from the blue tooth list somehow. I'm hesitant to "re-pair" the old watch.
