Does HDMI carry audio on the original Apple TV 2

The back of the Apple TV 2 unit has ports for both optical audio and HDMI. Does the HDMI carry audio as well as the optical port; if so I can simplify my home Theatre bundle of dust catching snakes.

HDMI carries both audio and video while optical is audio only. Keep in mind that the 2nd gen is 12 years old, classified as obsolete and most services have abandoned the server channels that model uses.

No problem. No one can change a standard connection, when it is proprietary it is done through a different medium (ie lightning).

Yes, Netflix is one of the very few remaining services but that could change. These aren't native apps and providers have increasingly found that it doesn't make sense to have separate resources to power these server channels on old devices so those icons have disappeared as they drop support. Even things like wifi performance may degrade due to age, so just wanted to give you the heads up in case you need to upgrade sooner than you think. Have a good one.
