Do I have to register my new iPhone for the warranty to be activated?

To answer your question, go to Settings/General/About and there will be an entry for warranty status. Alternatively, enter the serial number here→Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
If you bought the phone from Apple or an Apple authorized reseller the warranty should have registered automatically, but check to be sure.
