You are welcome. It is possible that the retailer or some other unauthorized source has done the “refurbishing” with no ability to modify the model number. Returning it for a refund may be the best plan.
The M starting letter would indicate that it is a new model. By what means have you determined that it is refurbished?
Thank you for your timely response. I purchased the device from a reseller for a great price and it was advertised as renewed/ refurbished. The warning about the display not being A-OK with Apple and the 12 Pro iOS 16.1 battery going from a 98% charge to a 2% read after two days of sitting in a box with all the battery saving tips in place, I've decided to return it for a refund. I'm hoping that goes smoothly and without incident.
TY!
