This worked for me:

"Goto - Settings - Privacy & Security - Extensions - Finder Extensions - Enable Google Drive and turn on Google Drive

Goto - Settings - Privacy & Security - Extensions - Added Extensions - Find "Google Drive Finder Helper" and which that on."

I just recently had the same problem. In my case Google Drive was no longer being mapped to /Volumes/My Drive and /Volumes/Shared drives so the solution entailed finding out where they were now moved to. Turned out they were moved to the home Library folder: Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-user@domain.com/My Drive and Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-user@domain.com/Shared drives where user@domain.com is your Google Drive user info. Of course, it was worse than pulling teeth to ferret out this information so if this helps someone in the future, awesome.

I have been trying to do all possible fixes for 3 months. Opened a support ticket with Google workspace and their ultimate answer was "Engineers know about this." Then they closed the support ticket.

The only help they provided, which did not resolve my issue was:

Please try to locate any Drive for Desktop folders on your MAC with DriveFS folder name then please try to delete them and please try to follow these steps:

  1. On your computer, click Finder  Applications.
  2. Open the Utilities folder.
  3. Click Terminal.
  4. Enter sudo kextcache -clear
  5. Press Return.
  6. Enter sudo mv /private/var/db/KernelExtensionManagement /private/var/db/KernelExtensionManagementBackup
  7. Press Return.
  8. Enter sudo kextutil -l /Library/Google/DriveFS/dfsfuse.kext
  9. Press Return.
  10. Launch Drive for desktop.

Fwiw, I tried to do this mapping and found it did not work, much to my chagrin. My conjecture is that Apple has disallowed adding symlinks or other mappings to /Volumes.

Facing the inability to map the OS location back to /Volumes/GoogleDrive..., I decided to adjust my home directory links ~/gd (My Drive) and ~/sd (Shared Drive) to the new Drive locations: ~/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-foo@domain.com where "foo@domain.com" is the email address one would use to login to Google Drive. This was easy to do using the Macos Terminal app. Substitute your actual email address used to login to Google Drive for foo@domain.com in the following:

  1. Start the Terminal app. I use the CMD-space key and type Terminal and hit the return key. This will start a program called "ksh" and show you a prompt, something like "foo@blue ~ % " where "foo" is your username and "blue" is the name of your computer.
  2. Execute the following commands by typing the text in bold.

foo@blue ~ % ln -s ~/Library/CloudStorage/Google-foo@domain.com/My\ Drive ~/gd

foo@blue ~ % ln -s ~/Library/CloudStorage/Google-foo@domain.com/Shared\ drives ~/gd

Then use the links gd and sd in file paths to actually refer to the Google Drive base folders.

Apple broke this feature with no notice justifying it (I believe) as a security feature. Google and other third parties who would like to provide Users with access to non-Apple cloud storage are facing the reality that Apple will continue to make their jobs harder if not impossible. IMHO this is all about Apple wanting to own the whole pie rather than help make the pie bigger and have a larger slice. In a word, Greed, wrapped in a noble (but false) cloth of protecting Users. Shame on Apple.

This did not make any difference. It still does not work. It crashes constantly and my files are not synced properly any more. I have uninstalled Google Drive and re-installed it several times but it just won't work. I start to get desperate! I have verified all the settings in System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Extensions (and tried to toggle them and rebooting in between but nothing helps).

Running on a MAC mini M1 2020, macOS = Ventura 13.0.1

Everything worked until I installed Ventura :-(

I have the exact same problem. My files just won't sync. I have noticed when I make copies of the files, the files will sync. But not when I save them originally.

I have literally tried every trick in the book. Logging out, restarting, de-installing, re-installing, making sure all the right things are activated ... to no avail. It has been ongoing for several weeks ... it's very frustrating and even Google Customer Service is not being very helpful at all.

If anyone out there was successful with any solution, please share!

Mac Studio 2022, macOS Ventura 13,1

Google Drive Version: 68.0.2.0

MacBook + Ventura 13.1 here. Same issues and tried things suggested, no luck. Then realized Google Drive moved to "Locations", making the old folder "Google Drive" useless. Checked Drive>Settings>Preferences and stream was selected (as opposed to mirroring). When I selected mirroring, it restarted the drive and downloading all my files into the new folder "My Drive". Now I have two of the same but I will wait until all files are fine before deleting the old folder.

No luck with these steps. Contact Google Workspace support.

Google Workspace support is saying this is an issue with macos ventura. user is on macos 13.2 on an intel mac.

"The trouble shooting steps for these issues are Uninstall and reinstall, delete the DriveFS folder(cache folder)"

"You will have to check with the apple support on this issue. Google drive settings and preferences are set at the correct setting"

Google Drive for desktop is at version 69.0.0

In case you want to uninstall it - I found a fix - try restarting your Mac and going into Safe mode (as it restarts hold down the Shift key > "Continue to Safe Mode". You should see "Safe" appear in the upper right corner of the screen.

I had the same issue on my Pro and wanted to uninstall it. But I couldn't because the app was still "open", even though I couldn't find it on any of my screens. Hope this helps!
