create labels in pages

I'm creating 3" x 4" name tags (with face shots) in Pages 12.2. The name tags are four to a page, each name tag has six layers. I need to group and lock layers but the app wont let me. The whole document is buggy. Also, how do I add pages? I need to make 20 to 30 name tags.

Thanks.

Pages is a word processing application that supports only two layers: 1) front, and 2) back. If you require six layers, then you should be looking at a different tool than what Apple provides to create each individual label as vector artwork.

Once you have the artwork done in the first paragraph, you will also note that Pages does not provide any label templates either. For that, you should consider the Avery site and one of the available (5392) 3 x 4 downloadable templates. Then its a choice of continuing to use your third-party vector tool and use one of the blank templates available (.e.g. .psd, .ai, .pdf), or wresting with Pages and copy/pasting your individual vector artwork labels into that solution. Avery even has an online label production facility that may prove more functional that Pages.

Each image or other object that you insert into Pages is by default set to repel its surroundings. For each of these selected objects, visit the Arrange panel and set Text wrap to None. Has nothing to do with text, but certainly does resolve the ability to move and align objects.

Now, you can position or overlay these objects depending on how you set the Arrange panel's Back/Front and Backward/Forward buttons. These should light up to show they were last selected, but don't leaving the guess work to you.
