How can I prevent resetting the Screen Time Passcode with my own Apple ID?

Hi, I have a Screen Time Passcode related question.

MY GOAL:

To be UNABLE to reset the Screen Time pass code on my phone using my own Apple ID. To be clear: I do NOT want to be able to reset the pass code.

MY PROBLEM:

I have an iPhone and an Apple ID, which I use to access Music, etc.

Because I have screen time related issues, I asked my partner to set up Screen Time on my phone using the "This Is My Child's Phone" option. My partner chose a Screen Time Pass Code and, when prompted, entered her own Apple ID as the pass code recovery email address.

Because I don't know her Apple ID password, that should keep me from being able to change passcodes.

On a whim, however, I tried changing the pass code anyway, choosing the "Forgot Passcode?" option. When prompted to enter an Apple ID and password, I should have had to enter hers, which would have been impossible. Instead, I was able to enter my own Apple ID and password, and was allowed to reset the pass code.

MY QUESTIONS:

Given that my partner used her own Apple ID when setting up the pass code, why was I allowed to enter my Apple ID to reset the pass code? And how can I fix this so that ONLY her Apple ID will reset the pass code?

Thanks!

Hello ShyPony,

That's a fantastic question. Since you were able to successfully reset the Screen Time passcode, did you verify that it was enabled using your partners Apple ID? If not, this could explain why you were able to reset the passcode successfully. If you haven't already, verify the Content & Privacy settings as outlined in the following article.

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

In addition to verifying the settings for Screen Time and Content & Privacy Restrictions, make sure your device is running the latest iOS. While updating is a simple step, it can be helpful in resolving many issues. If you need to reference the steps for updating, they are outlined below and can be found in the following article.

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

Update your iPhone or iPad
