Over 3000 unread messages added on iPhone upgrade!

My new iPhone 14 pro Is on iOS 16.0.2

My Mail app connects to 4 mail accounts, using SMTP

Main one now has over 3126 unread messages in it!! When I upgraded from iPhone 12 the mailbox got 2500 messages from somewhere!!

My ISP mail server has been emptied.

But every time I open Mail app, several 100 extra messages are added to Unread total.

Some messaging are VERY important so I can’t just delete everything.

How can I delete everything older than 12 months?

Everything from certain people?

HELP!

Hello UK-Mike,

It sounds like your iPhone is syncing with another device that is using your Apple ID. We'd suggest that you first figure out where the imported emails are coming from before you start deleting them, or they may just return to your iPhone. This article may help with that: Check your Apple ID device list to see where you're signed in - Apple Support. This can help find other devices you may need to consider for this.

As far as deleting the emails go, depending on which email client you use, you might be able to sort by date, name, title, keyword etc to determine which emails you wish to delete once you see what accounts are being synced to this iPhone.

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!
