Suddenly Unable to sign in into iCloud on my Windows Computer

Every time I try to sign in into iCloud through Windows I get a blank error box with literally no text... just a window with a red X in it.

I tried reinstalling iCloud, restarting PC, deleting Apple/iCloud folders etc etc and nothing worked.

And it's not like the password is incorrect because whenever it IS incorrect it's a different error box WITH text.

Thanks

Hi Rob_H1,

I have the same problem, as are a few others. See: Cannot sign into Windows iCloud: get a po… - Apple Community

I can log into iCloud via the brower and as itayy13 points out, putting in wrong credentials into the iClouds Windows app brings up another message saying that the credentials are incorrect.

If I do the same using another account on my PC (Windows 11 Pro), the installation works and I can log into iCloud Windows. I noticed that iCloud Windows generates quite a few log files in AppData\Local\Packages\AppleInc.iCloud_nzyj5cx40ttqa\LocalCache\Local\Logs. Are they any use in analyzing the problem?

It would be great, if you could help out!!

Hey there itayy13,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

Let's make sure your Apple ID and password is correctly by logging into your account at iCloud through a browser.

If you are able to successfully log in, let's see if this occurs on another user account. If you do not have another user account, create a test user account on your PC. If you're unsure how to do this, we recommend contacting Microsoft. Doing this can help us isolate the problem.

Keep us posted.

Have a great day!

Hi Rob_H1,

I had a closer look at one of the log files (iCloudPrefs.xxxx.log in AppData\Local\Packages\AppleInc.iCloud_nzyj5cx40ttqa\LocalCache\Local\Logs). Comparing the logs for the failing and successful accounts, I see the differences I copied below. Somehow the authentication goes wrong for the failing account, while I am using exactly the same credentials in both cases. (BTW, I replaced my AppleID by xxx.yyy.zz)

Hi Rob_H1,

Another update. If I log out the other AppleID from iCloud Windows and try to log back in with that AppleID, I get the same problem as with my original AppleID. So again a pop-up with a red circle / white cross, without any text.

So something seems to get corrupted if you log in and out of iCloud for Windows.

I have advanced data protection on, so iCloud won't let me sign in unless it's the latest version of iCloud, so I've pretty much locked myself out of my account on this user (this is a single user PC so I have no intention of adding other users to this pc) unless someone has figured out something along the lines of "you have to navigate to C:\Windows\WindowsStoreApps\Apple.iCloud and delete the file named thisfileisbreakingit.delet to get it working"
