not playing on any browser on mac OS 12.5

Recently, DRM protected content stopped playing on my Chrome browser, with only sound and no picture. Now DRM protected content will not play the video on Safari or firefox as well as on Chrome. Clearing the cache/cookies and turning on and off the play DRM setting does not help. Audio and video are allowed to be played in the settings on each browser. Netflix, HBO, other streaming services will not work. Any solutions? I just updated to Mac OS 12.5 to see if that solves the problem but it did not help.

Solutions, no, but some suggestions. If any screen-sharing functions are enabled including AirPlay, Screen Sharing, or if you are using external monitors, overzealous DRM implementations including HDCP will refuse to play. When that happens video will be disabled on all displays, not just external ones. Audio will be unaffected, as you described.

Turn Mac screen sharing on or off - Apple Support

Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV - Apple Support

Turn those services off and determine if it fixes the problem.

Certain apps and services will refuse to play even on a Mac's built-in display. Netflix has been the most common offender and would complain the monitor was not HDCP compliant. I no longer use Netflix for that reason (and others).

Until you arrive at a solution constrain your troubleshooting to Safari and / or the Apple TV app, which will simplify matters. Otherwise you're risking one company blaming the other leaving you in the middle.
