iPad camera turns on and off autonomously while not in use.

Will Analytics files shed light on this?

All camera permissions are off. Green camera light will be on when I turn on my iPad, and then the light turns immediately off.

Assuming you don’t pull the first display left at login, and are running iPadOS 15.7.1 or iPadOS 16.1.1, there should be no reason for that behavior.

Update if not already, force restart the iPhone, then contact Apple Support.

Analytics is the answer to very, very few questions.

Are you possibly shifting the lock screen leftward when unlocking the iPad? That swipe gesture activates the camera.

Do you happen to have an iPad Pro, one of the ones that works with Face ID? If that is the case, when you wake the screen to have Face ID work to open your iPad, the green light will flash on and off quickly as the TrueDepth camera flashes on to verify your face for the ID function.

That behavior varies, then. I just tried it (iPad Pro on 15.7), and no green shown.

I’ve experimented with turning it off (not powering down, just turning off the screen) while the camera is on and also while video is being taken, and then turning it back on, but neither app creates a green dot in the status bar, only in the uppermost right hand corner while in the app. FaceID and FaceTime are disabled and I don’t have video platform apps. I tested Voice Notes iOS app and it doesn’t seem to use a green dot at any point.
