Why is iPad iCloud backup so large after iOS 16 upgrade?

Installed iOS 16.1.1 on iPhone & IPad. My next iPad iCloud backup is huge compared to what it used to be. Previous backup was 293.7. Next backup shows +1.4 GB. I suspect it’s related to iMessage & syncing. iPad iMessage storage tells me I have 1.42 GB of iMessage documents and data stored on my iPad although I have sync iMessage across devices turned on. iPhone iMessage storage indicates 818.8 MB of documents & data on the phone. Figured it would be the same across both devices due to sync, but that’s a different question for another day. Previous iPhone iCloud backup was 414.6 with the next being +56.5.

Hey there bleonard38,

If you'd like to reduce the size of your next backup, you may find options that will work for you on the following page: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support Scroll down to the section that says, "Reduce the size of your iCloud Backup" for details.

If you run into an issue backing up to iCloud, the following resource can help you troubleshoot that issue: If you can't back up to iCloud - Apple Support

Take care.
