it tells me to type my password followed by the verification code - example abc178, abc being my password and 178 being the code it just tells me my passwords wrong but it’s not it’s just me adding the code to the end so what am i supposed to do?? edit- it’s now telling me an error occurred while trying to save the icloud account, how will i ever sign in if i’m doing everything right but there’s an unexplained error.

I believe it is meaning submit your password first then on whatever is your primary device you will receive a 6 digit code in this format 123-456 you enter that code after submitting password, as for the update close itout and try again

Depending on your device you might have to fill in the Apple ID password and the code in one row, without any space between the digits.
In your example: password abc, verification code 123456: abc123456
If this does not work, call the official Apple Support, they can take a look at your settings from their side to fix this:
You should be able to click on "Did not get Verification code", and Apple will send you another by SMS or phone call:

Any error number given?
Are you using a Firewall, Anti-Virus software or a VPN, that might block the contact to Apple servers?
Where is the space i type in the verification code? after i submit my password and that text pops up there’s still only a spot for my ID and usual password.

i updated my device and it’s no longer giving an error however after i put my ID and password it pops up with the spot to verify my identity, but the problem is i’m not receiving any new codes
