External Mic Too Loud/Sensitive - iPhone 11

Someone had this question, so I'm going to use their commentary because it's the exact same for me. - I purchased an external lavalier bluetooth microphone for my iPhone 11 Pro to record interviews, but am experiencing problems. The audio that gets sent back is too loud, or too sensitive. Any time the person who is mic’d up projects their voice or raises their volume even slightly, the audio gets fuzzy and clips. The issue is assuaged by moving the mic further away from the speaker, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the lave mic, doesn’t it? It should be able to clip to their shirt/collar without a problem. I’m wondering if there’s any way to adjust the microphone’s volume/sensitivity on the iPhone itself, or if I need some other solution.

I purchase a "GRTPRTS Wireless Lavalier Microphone", it is a bluetooth mic.

Also, I've already "checked out Adjust audio and visual settings on iPhone for a few options that may help" - there is nothing there to adjust volume for an external microphone.

Hi pastormike129,

While there is not a setting to lower the input level of an external mic in Settings of iPhone, there may be a way you can lower the input level. Does the program that you use to record have an input level adjustment? If not, you could use GarageBand to record the interviews as it has microphone input level adjust: Use the Audio Recorder in GarageBand for iPhone – Apple Support

"The In level slider on the left shows the input level from the microphone or input source. If your iPhone or input source supports input level control, the slider is active and you can drag it up or down to adjust the input level. If the level turns red, drag the slider down (or record the part again more softly) to prevent distortion.

  1. Drag the In level slider up or down to set the input level.
  2. If the input device supports left and right channels, tap Channel button under the In level slider, tap Input 1 or Input 2 to select the input channel, or tap Stereo to record in stereo.
  3. When you finish, tap Done."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
