canon print studio pro

I have been using Canon Print Studio Pro (PSP) on my Apple m1 Macbook successfully by running Adobe Photoshop (PS) CC 2023 under Rosetta. This gives the option to run Canon PSP under the Automate menu item.

I have just updated to Ventura and now while the Automate option is still there, after Canon PSP starts, it immediately gives an error ("An error has occurred. Exiting Print Studio Pro.") and shuts down Canon PSP. I have tried going back to Adobe PS 2022 to see if the error exists there and it does whereas again, I was previously able to successfully print from Photoshop using the Canon PSP software, leading me to believe the issue is related to my update to Ventura.

Has anybody else encountered this issue or have a suggestion on a workaround?

Thanks for any help provided.

Tony

I was finally able to solve this problem:

open the folder /Users/<your-user>/Library/Application Support/Print Studio Pro/V2/UserData/Favorites

Inside this folder you have all your saved print settings. For each file, open it with a text editor, starting with the 'UserSetting_Custom.xml', and locate the following two lines:

<key>USEPROOFMODE</key>

<true/>

Change the 'true' into 'false':

<key>USEPROOFMODE</key>

<false/>

Open Print Studio Pro. It should work now.

In my case the problem is the flag "Enable soft proofing". The procedure above disables the option allowing the software to load.

If I click on "Enable soft proofing" again, the software crashes immediately.

Let me know if it works for you!

Thanks for this suggestion Tony. I am having same issues with PSP so tried the Professional Print and Layout application/plugin (v1.3.0 Sept 22). Unfortunately this is works only for select canon pro printers but would not recognize my Canon pixma pro-10 model. I checked canon forums and found discussion of issues with PSP in macOS Ventura environment. Also tested Canon PSP in Canon's digital photo profession 4 application and had the same error. (my error message is slightly different: "an error occurred while printing. Memory may be insufficient for printing"). Printing outside of PSP using the application print command is successful so fundamentally the printer/app/macOS are cooperating and PSP is isolated issue.

I have exactly the same problem. I had it too when the Apple updated to OS12. The solution was to wait many months until Canon finally got round to updating PSP. I’ve tried contacting Canon about the issue, but their “support” page has been very frustrating, leading me round in circles. I guess we’ll probably have to wait until sometime next year for Canon to fix the issue. Part of the problem seems to be the frequency of OS updates coming out of Apple. For whatever reason, Canon seems to almost always have a hard time with this so they are constantly behind the curve.

When I first purchased the Pixma Pro 100, Print Studio Pro worked as a stand-alone app, but when MacOS went to a 64 bit OS only, Canon stopped supporting it as a stand-alone app. I've been using their Easy Photo Print Editor since then with no issues, however, I just decided to try Lightroom/Photoshop again, with one of the intents to simplify the workflow. Also Easy Photo Print Editor isn't as powerful, but it does the job. I tried Print Studio Pro as a plug-in and failed miserably like the rest here. I'm going to try Lightroom Classic without Print Studio Pro, but I find that the colour from Lightroom Classic isn't as accurate as from Easy Photo Print Editor. I might just go back to Easy Photo Print Editor and dump Lightroom/Photoshop altogether from the workflow and stick with Affinity Photo and Luminar. Adobe offered me some discounts to stay for a couple extra months. I might be able to get to a point where I have Lightroom setup to print how I want it to, but I've given up on Canon supporting their printers. Given the price of the ink cartridges, it would be worth it for them to throw a s/w dev at this for a day or two to resolve.

Hi everyone, It's Luke

I just got my brand new Macbook Pro 16 M2 max, very enthusiast to work with it and have zero lag at all with LR and PS... I use Canon Pro 1000 to print my portraits and used a lot Print studio pro with Windows..

Now that I read all these users to be struggling, I am a little bit disappointed. But just now I know why...

I tried to download all the canon print software compatible for Ventura and print studio pro wasn't in this list, it is compatible till the 12th version of macOs and I tried to download anyway and install...well, now on LR it is appearing in the section extra plug-in but still didnt' try to work but on PS even I installed correctly it never appeared on the Automations....

Professional & Print Layout seems the only way to print via canon software and now I have to learn how to do it, it's easy I know but it seems that I am going to waste more time to print...

A problem like this should be figured out immediately by Canon... A bit of shame..
