microsoft 365 notification to upgrade macOS

Using OS 10.15.7.

Yesterday, I got notifications from Microsoft AutoUpdate saying that five of my Microsoft applications require an update to macOS 11.0 or later, and offers a link (I didnt follow it).

It says the same thing in the 'check for updates' menu inside each of the applications.

Has anyone else had the same issue?

For completeness & clarity, MS says that it only supports the three most recent versions of macOS, which at this point are Big Sur, Monterey & Ventura. The October 2022 update (16.66) is the last build to support macOS Catalina 10.15.

If you are on Catalina or earlier, MS says that "your Office apps will still work but you would no longer receive any updates including security updates." which is of course a relief that you won't somehow be updated to versions that would not run on Catalina. See this MS FAQ -> Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates

Even so, if you are on Catalina or earlier, I think it's best to turn OFF automatic updates for Office 365 apps.
