Voice keeps falling back to Car bluetooth despite wearing air-pods/wired ear-pods

Hello

I use Teams for some morning calls. Unfortunately, I have to warm up the car at the same time due to snow so the phone connects to car Bluetooth and I lose all voice from the phone. As you may have guessed, I am not the car either.

My questions, is, if I have air pods on, why does the voice start being routed through car Bluetooth? Air-pods should have precedence because I am wearing them.

Giving Apple the benefit of the doubt, I plugged in my trusty wired ear-pods. This should work because I have physically plugged in my headphones in the phone. Should be enough to ascertain intent. BUT NO. The voice still starts routing through car speakers.

I have a physical connection to my iPhone using wired ear-pods but the iPhone sends my voice to the car.

I am not sure why this has not been fixed so far but it is annoying, to say the least.

My morning calls on Teams are a mess for this reason.
