Remote battery dying fast

As of the last two weeks, my ATV4K 2nd gen remote has been dying rapidly. I need to charge it every 48 hours whereas it usually lasts months without needed a recharge.

I tried the remote reset by holding down the TV/Control center button and volume down but it's down to 90% after a being only off the charger for a few hours

Verify that you charge in the intended manner, using a good cable and a good charger (verify that those are not the cause too).

Charge the Siri Remote - Apple Support

- directly to a computer USB port (no unpowered USB hub)

- or to a USB power adapter in an AC outlet.

If the issue persists, and that is the only issue (no other damages), then there is a battery service for remotes. There may be a service fee if out of warranty/out of AppleCare+. Apple TV Repair & Service - Apple Support

A max charge level of 79% is listed as a requirements for replacement. 90% is not severe enough.
