the letter E in my keyboard stopped working properly, apple claims its liquid damage.

Hello All,

I have a work macbook pro 2019 model. last week when i started working the letter E was acting weird (would either stick or not respond). at first i thought ok maybe something got under the key... so i done my best to fix it myself as with previous work macbooks i have possessed in the past (i have had over 5 laptops from different companies i worked for plus two personal ones). However this time it didnt work. So googling online i eventually came across this link: How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro – Apple Support (AU)

Which suggests to use an air can to clean the laptop. As anyone that might have used these cans in the past if you overspray eventually liquid comes out, but its non damaging.

After the doing the letter E was still broken so i took it to the apple store hoping they could just replace the sensor on that key and send me on my way....

However they took it and now the repair depo is saying there is liquid damage on the laptop key. And sent the photo below asking me to pay for £79.

In this photo there is no sign of liquid damage whatsover, and no one in apple lets me get in touch to the department that is doing the repair so they can explain to how they can suggest this was liquid damage.

I am pretty sure if there is any residue of liquid it will be from a spill from the air can. which again is non toxic to the keyboard.

i know no one else used my laptop because i am pretty OCD with it, i have owned several mac devices since 2007 and the only repairs done on them were the result of manufacturers fault. Everyone in my house knows to not even go close to laptop. Also if there was liquid spilled into the laptop, considering where the letter E is, i am sure more keys would be damaged. Instead its just the one key, which is not even in the edge of the keyboard.

When speaking on the phone, support directs my call to the apple store where the repair started from, the apple store says they cant see the report, and they cant do nothing and tell me to just pay for it. In fact the apple store told me i am getting a pretty good deal for the damage i caused. Which again really crosses me because i have done no damage to it at all. I am being accused of damaging the laptop when i am pretty sure if there is any liquid residue it has to be from this can, which they suggest to use.

To anyone interested this is the air can i always use:

What are my options here with this. I feel apple doesnt care at all, and i am stuck with a laptop with a key that doesnt work. (i am a software developer so a fully functioning keyboar is essential).

Regards

There is a brownish spot on the upper left corner of the scissor mechanism in the photo (between the black area and the white of the scissor mechanism). I don't know what it is...may be liquid residue or some moist/soft food crumbs that have been crushed. I suspect the latter since I don't see much else within that key cavity to indicate liquid, but cannot tell for sure from the picture.
