IOS 16.1.1 proximity sensor

Since updating to IOS 16, the proximity sensor isn't working while I'm on calls. It keeps muting and changing to speaker mode... Is this happening to someone else?

Hello CarolinaMendes,

The Proximity sensor is what dims the screen when you bring the iPhone up to your ear. If this is not happening, and since the Proximity sensor is hardware, you'll want to have your iPhone looked at by a technician.

There is an Accessibility feature, VoiceOver, which has an option setting that sounds similar to what you described.

Change your VoiceOver settings on iPhone
You can customize the settings for VoiceOver, such as the audio options, language, voice, speaking rate, and verbosity.

Adjust the VoiceOver volume and other audio options
• Auto-select Speaker in Call: Automatically switch to the speaker during a call when you’re not holding iPhone to your ear.

If that is enabled, go ahead and turn that option off, and then test if the iPhone screen dims while it's up to your ear.

If not, then you'll need to have it serviced, as shown above.

If it's the VoiceOver option which isn't working as expected, then we'd advise to contact Apple Support. They can take a closer look at what's happening with VoiceOver.
