Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Greyedouthelp,

If we understand your post correctly, the edit options are greyed out in QuickTime Player. We’d like to help.

Try these steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Test the the edit options with a different video.
  2. Try restarting your MacBook Pro
  3. Start in safe Mode and test for this issue: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

(Edit) functions will need a condition to be available.

Undo requires a prior action that can be undone.

Redo requires an Undo action right before it, that can be re-done.

Cut requires a selection.

Copy requires a selection, or a paused movie at any frame.

Paste requires content on the clipboard that can be inserted in any open movie.

Delete requires a selection.

Select All requires something selectable.

Rotate Left/Rotate Right/Flip Horizontal/Flip Vertical requires an opened movie document for which the video content can be rotated or flipped.

Clip Alignment﹥Center|Top|Bottom|Left|Right says how inserted clips with non-matching aspect ratio should be handled (with the play position in that segment). Not available if all segments are the same aspect ratio.

Split Clip requires a playhead position somewhere in the middle; not at the beginning or end.

Add Clip to End requires a 2nd clip on disk to be added.

Remove Audio requires a non-edited/saved clip with video and audio.

Remove Video requires a non-edited/saved clip with video and audio.

Trim requires a non-edited/saved document open.
