You can use AirPlay or Home Sharing, whichever you prefer.

Unfortunately, the current macOS user guide doesn’t reflect macOS High Sierra 10.13 anymore.
If you are new to AirPlay, use the “AirPlay to﹥Apple TV” option from the AirPlay/Screen Mirroring icon in the menu bar.
Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support
For macOS 10.14 or earlier, the setup is very similar to the ‘PC’ instructions, as it uses the iTunes application. Use the “Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV” option in the File﹥Home Sharing menu to select which photos to share. Access the photos through the Computers app on Apple TV.
Not sure if iCloud Photos are supported (as a possible third option) with this older model Apple TV. That would be supported for later models.
