Tunes no longer available in my country or region

Many of my downloaded tunes suddenly stopped being available in my country or region during Oct/Nov. ITunes says they are unavailable in my country or region (I am UK). One example is London Calling by the Clash. However, I can play the same tunes on my PC (same account) and on my Amazon Echo that’s linked to my iTunes account. So why not my phone? Tried resetting my country and also reinstalling iTunes - made no difference.

Hi there WoodenFerret,

We'd like to learn more to see how we can help. You mentioned these songs were downloaded on your device; if you choose to search for these songs in Apple Music, rather than your library, are you still seeing the same results when trying to play them?

Have you tried deleting them and redownloading them to see if that resolves the issue? learn how to do that using the links below:

Delete music in the Apple Music app - Apple Support

Delete music on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device
1. Open the Apple Music app.
2. Go to Library and tap Downloaded to see your downloads. On your iPad, tap Downloaded in the sidebar.
3. Find the song, album, or music video that you want to remove.
4. Touch and hold the item, then tap Remove.
5. Tap Remove Download to remove the item from only this device. Or tap Delete from Library to delete the item across all of your devices.

Redownload music - Apple Support

Redownload music in the iTunes Store app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Open the iTunes Store app.
• On your iPhone or iPod touch: At the bottom of your screen, tap More More button, then tap Purchased.
• On your iPad: Tap Purchased.
2. Tap Music. If you use Family Sharing, tap a family member’s name to see music that they purchased.
3. Find the music that you want to redownload, then tap it.
4. Tap the download button Download button next to a song or album.

Also, you'll want to ensure your iPhone is running the latest software version, which is iOS 16.1.1. You can see the installed version by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version. If needed, learn more about updating your iPhone here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

About half of my songs stopped being available, looking at a few it seems that these are also unavailable searching Apple Music. I access music using a subscription shared by my daughter. Recently she got a new phone and accepted a free trial of Apple One. John (from the Apple Greece office) thinks there could be a link with the subscription change and the region issue. I’m waiting to see if a fix might be coming - I’d prefer not to have to purchase a separate licence, so hoping for a fix. It’s possible that a few tunes could have alternate sources that I do have access to (I found one I the samples I checked) but there is about 200 songs unavailable and from the few I checked, most do not have an alternate. How this helps, thanks.

This is clearly a problem that Apple must know about, and it’s provably caused by ios16. I have thousands of tracks saying “not available in my region” on my iphone 14 (ios16), whereas they’re all fully playable on my ipad (ios15).

There’s plenty of other postings about it, some weeks old, but no reply from Apple, other than the usual “re-sync”, or “remove and re-add”, both of which are temporary answers, until Apple fix ios16.

What are you talking about? I use Apple Music subscription on my Apple Watch, my iPad, my Mac, my Apple TV. I have several thousand playlists, with tens of thousands of tracks (some in hi-res lossless format), subdivided into folders, and play it in my car through Apple CarPlay.

A third party player, or god forbid, file explorer is hardly going to let me do any of that, especially as I don't own any of the music, which is why I pay for a subscription service like Apple Music in the first place.

Hi, thanks for your comments. My music is 100% subscription, shared by a member of my family. It seems that, when she switched to Apple One, half my music became unavailable. Apple are looking at why this happened, at the moment the only options I seem to have are to 1) try to find alternate songs (which may work for a handful) 2) get my own Apple Music subscription 3) switch to an alternative. All a lot of effort and cost unless Apple can figure out how to fix the original issue.

Hi

Yeah, mine is all subscription too, although I suspect that's irrelevant to me, this is mostly an ios16 issue. There are less tracks unavailable on my ios15 and macOS devices, but huge swathes of unavailable tracks on my iPhone (which is an iPhone 14, so I can't actually run iOS15).

Apple are definitely aware of it, as I know other people on this forum have been calling them, but when I call them we have to go through the old dance of delete/re-add, resync, etc. All of which does nothing.

Like you, I'm waiting for a release to fix it :-(

Your original post made no mention of Apple Music, but iTunes and an iTunes account (which if I understand correctly, is mainly for purchases). Clarify please? If the two are mixed together, it can be toxic. At any rate, maybe Apple will get to the bottom of your issue, especially if it’s related to subscription upgrade…all the best.
