MBA M2 base model - mouse lag on external display

Laptop: MacBook Air M2 Base model

Monitor: LG W2453V (very old)

Keyboard and Mouse: Microsoft Sculpt Comfort

Hello,

My old monitor is connected to my MBA M2 via USB-C - HDMI.

The mouse pointer is laggy.

What can I do?

I've tried changing the resolution on both displays. I've tried 2 different cables from Amazon. I've tried changing the refresh rate from 60hz to 50hz on the external display. None seem to work.

Do I have any solutions before I upgrade my monitor?

Thank you in advance.

Are you still experiencing this issue?

I had something similar happen but with a newer Mouse and newer display Dell S2722

I recently bought the new Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac. Wanted that model as it didn't have a Bluetooth receiver dongle, and worked natively with the Mac. But the cursor lag was atrocious. As a designer, there was no way I could work with it. This was with Monterey. I sent it back, and went back to my trusty decade old Logitech G400 wired mouse.

But I started noticing that it too now had lag (though not as much)! However, it was only associated with my external display as using the mouse with my MacBook Pro 14 M1 was smooth. I was thinking it may have had something to do with newer Logitech drivers/software which I had removed, but I hadn't restarted my computer for changes to take effect. Doing so solved the issue.

There also can sometimes be conflicts with drivers or screen refresh rate. Your lower monitor at 30Hz may cause an issue.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad you found a working solution.

I did find a solution too. This is going to sound crazy but some guy on youtube mentioned how a 6ft USB extender cable fixed his mouse lag. I got one for myself and I cannot believe it fixed my mouse lag. I may be speaking too soon but hopefully it'll be a permanent fix.

Thanks again!

Hello roca37,

It seems like you want to change the mouse tracking speed, is that correct? We'd like to provide some information that may help.

Please check out this link, which will guide you through how to change the mouse tracking speed, and may help with this issue: Change mouse tracking, double-click, and scrolling speed on Mac

Change mouse tracking, double-click, and scrolling speed on Mac

To work more comfortably, change the way your mouse responds as you move it. A wireless mouse must be connected with your Mac to make the changes below.

Change mouse tracking speed

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Mouse  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Drag the slider next to Tracking speed on the right to adjust how fast the pointer moves when you drag the mouse.

Tip: As you adjust the slider, try moving your mouse to see the effect of your changes.

Take care!
