Phantom Battery Drain

My AirPod max headphones are new (I’ve had them for maybe 2 months) and I really enjoy using them ~ with one glaring issue, the battery has major phantom drain! I’ll plug them in and charge to 100% and then put it in the case sometime in the middle of the day. The next morning when I get up and start using them 90% battery. This is crazy. I need an off switch if the terribly designed “Smart Case” isn’t going to turn them off. I haven’t don’t extensive testing, but they seem to have anywhere from 5-10% drain every 12-24 hours. This is unacceptable and Apple should be ashamed for making such a bad case that doesn’t turn off the headphones.
