Battery drain issue with AirPods Max USB-C on firmware 7E101
Hello,
I’d like to report an issue I’ve been experiencing with the battery of my AirPods Max USB-C.
Recently, I’ve noticed that the headphones are losing a significant amount of charge even when not in use and stored in their case. I’ve run numerous tests, tried different settings, turned off Bluetooth on all my devices (MacBook, iPad, and iPhone), disabled Find My for the headphones, and even placed them in another room away from all devices. Despite this, the results remain extremely unpredictable.
The headphones lose about 15–20% of battery overnight if both Bluetooth and Find My are enabled — even though they’re just sitting in the case. When I completely turn off Bluetooth on all devices and disable Find My, the battery remains stable and doesn’t drop at all. However, on another day, under exactly the same conditions, the battery starts to drain again. That’s what concerns me the most — the inconsistency and lack of any clear logic. No matter what settings I try, sooner or later the headphones begin to discharge rapidly again.
Moreover, under the same conditions, over the same amount of time, they lose a different amount of charge! It’s completely chaotic, without any consistency. They just seem to live their own life.
This behavior started after updating to firmware version 7E101. I never had this issue before. I’ve seen a few reports from other users describing similar symptoms, which leads me to believe the issue might be related to this firmware — even if it doesn’t affect everyone.
The headphones are genuine, the firmware updates correctly, and the case does reliably put them to sleep — I’ve confirmed that as well.
Unfortunately, I live in a country where Apple no longer offers official support, so I can’t visit a Genius Bar or submit a warranty request. I’m really hoping this issue can be investigated and potentially resolved in a future firmware update.
Thank you for your attention.
Best regards,
Artem
