Short names and Nicknames seem to not be working

Hi,

The shortname and nickname on contacts seem to not be working. I tried already restarting phone, turning the toggle of preferred nickname and shortname on and off but nothing works.

Sincerley,

Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

This may be able to help:

"About Nicknames

Contacts are listed with First, Last, and Company fields, but you can add a Nickname field. If you have Prefer Nicknames on and the contact has a nickname, you'll see the nickname entry.

To add a nickname:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap Contacts.
  2. Tap the contact you want to view, then tap Edit.
  3. Scroll down and tap add field > Nickname.
  4. Add a nickname and tap Done."

More details can be found here: About Short Name on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? How exactly are they not working? Do you experience this when receiving calls/messages? Are you using multiple accounts to sync your contacts? Also, which device and iOS version are you currently using?

Cheers!

Hello allenumali,

Thanks for that info. Since it's only that one card so far, see if you have multiple Contacts account.

If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

"If your contacts, calendars, and reminders are in iCloud, then iCloud automatically updates your information. If your information is in a third-party account, like Google or Yahoo, you can change your default account to iCloud. Changing your default account to iCloud won't move your existing information from a third-party service to iCloud."

It's possible her card is coming from some other place, such as your email, where these changes may not stick.

If it's not that, then please contact us using this link so we can investigate further with you: Apple Support

Thanks.

Yeah the issue still persits. Im using iphone 14 pro max. Ios 16.1.1. I have a nickname for my wife called wifey, when looking through contacts it just shows her full name. Below is my current setting.

supposedly all contacts only show first names but my contacts show full names and those with nicknames such as my wife don’t show nicknames in contacts, or when they call.

However the weird part is when i try to share her something through airdrop it shows the correct nickname.

so i really dont understand whats going on.
