Thank you for your response.
Let me clarify my problem and provide an update...
I have gone to Preferences and unchecked both "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library." This does not stop iTunes from wanting to load the West Side Story soundtrack in the "Compilations" folder.
As for manually moving folders, I have been doing it since 2010. I own over 1,800 CDs, but have not used iTunes to manage my collection since 2017. (There was an iTunes update that removed all my song information from the playlist. It wasn't until recently that I learned that I can simply pull an .itl file from "Previous iTunes Libraries" to restore my settings.) Prior to me being frustrated in 2017, after I would manually move songs I would simply use the "Locate" function to link the new location to the library. I use a dedicated Surface Pro as a music server and like how I can uses iTunes to push songs to different amps/Apple TV devices. That said, I need to keep the songs properly organized in folders for the times when I use another device to access my music. The way I now have my music organized works for all devices.
So to recap:
1) Unchecking the "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" boxes did not stop iTunes from loading a soundtrack to the "Compilations" folder.
2) Trying to manually override the file location results in iTunes wanting to automatically move all my soundtracks and greatest hits albums to the "Compilations" folder.
I am hoping another audiofile (or an Apple employees monitoring these discussions) who had this issue know the trick to stop this.
Cheers!
