Watch workout app will only show distance in miles not km

My series 3 watch will only show the workout distance (biking, running, walking, etc in Miles.

I confirmed it is in km on the health app on my phone and watch.

I confirmed it is in km on the workout app on the phone (watch app) and on the watch.

I confirmed the region was Canada (originally it was set to mirror the phone, and my new phone 13 pro was set to United States. But I changed it manually on the watch and on the phone.).

I reset the watch and noted it came up with the region being Canada.

I can change the speed to km/hr but not the distance.

And if I press the three buttons and set distance it will be in km.

So it seems that for some reason I can’t change the elapsed distance to Km it just stubbornly stays at miles.

This is the main thing I look at when running or biking and I was able to change it before using the watch settings.

Has anyone else run into this problem and found a fix?

I fixed it!!! It seems that it was taking the region code and that made it stick to miles. I restarted the phone after Canada set as the region and then restarted the watch. It magically went to Km. Note that it shows M at first which had me confused for a minute but that’s Meters not Mi Miles.

it was ONLY showing Mi until I set the country code and restarted even if I had the units set to metric.

Hi User123x,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. Try adjusting the settings before starting a workout on your Apple Watch. The steps and article below explains how to adjust the settings.

"Change measurement units

If you prefer meters to yards or kilojoules to calories, you can change the measurement units the Workout app uses.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Workout, scroll down, then tap Units of Measure.

You can change units for energy, pool length, cycling workouts, and walking and running workouts".
