Mail loads emails that are blank and message viewer keeps closing

For a while, some emails would not open from Message Viewer when double-clicked. Most would open with Command+O. Today, to read some emails, I had to select Print/Save as PDF.

Some emails open blank. The image below shows an email in Message Viewer and the empty message. The message isn't actually empty. When I click around it randomly, eventually a web page opens. There's content, I just can't see it. (text continues below pic.)

It gets better. When I close the email, Message Viewer also closes.

I've read responses to similar problems and adjusted Preference -- OOPS, EXCUSE ME -- Settings to not hide IP address, nor Block All Remote Content.

Comments? Ideas?
