Optimised battery charging

I use my MacBook Pro on charge almost ALL the time, at least 80 hours a week. So Optimised Battery Charging is great, keeping it at 80% most of the time.

However, it's also being REALLY annoying. At least once a day it increases the battery to 100% for hours and hours, often overnight (when my laptop is unplugged and in my bag for a commute), then the next morning it discharges to 80%. This is adding unnecessary battery cycles, and is a pointless use of maxing out the charge, and I think this feature isn't doing its job.

An hour ago it discharged to 80% from 100%, and just 10 minutes ago I moved my laptop to a different table, plugged it in again 20 seconds later, and this made it start charging up to 100%.

Should I download a 3rd party app that holds it at 80% always, or 70% or 60%? Are they safe? Are they better? I never need it at max capacity, and if I do (e.g. travelling) I would always make sure it's 100%. (I wish it had a feature to manually input preferences, rather than being automated)

you do not have to micro-manage the battery. Let the software do its job.

It is designed to extend the working life of your battery, well integrated into the macOS.

I would not recommend third party software to manage battery. Good Battery management is not static— this is a horrible idea to lock it in as you suggest above at some set %. BHM is dynamic.

You can turn off BHM—both optimize charging and battery longevity...if it makes you feel better.
