This last software update changed the tone that is played by the phone when I use my watch to locate it. I do this often, and the new (more strident) tone is scaring my dog. How do I change it??

This is not a user selectable sound. In other words, you can't change the tone.
No one from Apple is here to read your request. And as this is a user to user only forum, no one here can change anything.

Personally, I find animals eventually adjust to new sounds.
My dog disapproves of such programming!
My dog does not approve either! I hesitate to find my phone from my watch because she ALWAYS acts like someone just knocked at the door. Please change it back Apple!
The new ring tone when I use I watch to locate my iPhone is too disturbing and loud. I wake up my grand daughter!!
