Ipad gray dot when connected to Imac

I have a new Ipad with IOS16 and connect it to my 2017 Imac with Ventura as an extended monitor. After a few minutes if I go to swipe back to my computer from the Ipad the mouse cursor will turn to a gray dot and then disconnect.

Not sure why this is happening?

Hello carltonfromhampton,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We’d like to help make sure that your iPad and Mac are staying connected so that you can use the Sidecar features to extend your iPad as a second display.

We’d suggest the following troubleshooting steps if you notice that the connect to your Mac or trackpad is disconnecting unexpectedly.

  1. Restart both devices.
  2. Toggle Handoff off and back on for both devices: Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other devices - Apple Support
  3. Toggle Bluetooth off and back on for both devices.
  4. Restart your Wi-Fi hardware (router and modem).
  5. Forget the Wi-Fi network on both devices and reconnect: How to forget a Wi-Fi network on iPhone, iPad, or Mac - Apple Support
  6. Test connecting your iPad directly to your Mac with a cable, and also wirelessly: Use an iPad as a second display for a Mac - Apple Support

If you continue to notice the same connection issue after completing the steps above, please contact Apple Support directly for more help.

Have a great day!
