Well , Battery was dead. I had trouble with getting the cover off but managed with fingers. Then I had a Duracell battery, and didn't know the problem with them. Found that answer and cleared film with rubbing alcohol. Then, could not turn the cover to lock battery in place. Found after much searching a YouTube video using the heels of both hands to turn instead of using fingers which finally worked.

Thank you for responding. I have given this here for U to help others with. If U know of any other trick I would appreciate it as others in family have theirs coming up to replace and it is NOT easy.

I'm sure others here will benefit from what your experience with changing the AirTag's battery has been. So far, for me, I haven't come across this ... but, I only have a single AirTag and only had the opportunity to change its battery once.

If I had to venture a guess, at least three things can make opening the AirTag problematic:

Any friction between the battery and the case would increase the difficulty of being able to rotate the latter. One could be any application of a coating on the battery.
Any potential debris that could have entered when first installing the battery.
Battery failure where the battery could swell.

Are you having an issue removing or installing the battery cover on your AirTag? Is this a new AirTag? If not, did you have to replace the AirTag's battery?
