Bose Solo 5 sound bar and Siri remote for AppleTV
Hi, I spent an hour last night on the phone with Apple Support trying to get my Siri remote for my Apple TV to control the volume of my Bose Solo 5 sound bar, with no success. It had worked in the past, put with some recent (in the last few months) software update to the AppleTV the Siri remote stopped controlling the Bose Sound bar volume.
Apple Support and I tried everything the support website says to do, cycle the remote, cycle the Apple TV, and on and on. The problem was that the AppleTV would not recognize the little Bose remote's IR signal in order to learn it.
I should note that the sound bar is plugged into the TV, and not directly to the AppleTV, (too bad Apple stopped putting optical out jacks on AppleTV) and the AppleTV is connected to the TV via a HDMI cable, with CEC enabled.
I did get it to work on my own. I was able to get an old cable box remote to pair (control) the sound bar, and then the AppleTV was able to learn from that remote. The remote I used is a "CLIKR -5" and is/ was used by Spectrum and Bright House for their cable boxes. The remote has a number on the bottom of the front side "UR5U-8780L-BHC", but I would imagine that other CLIKR -5 remotes would work as well.
I set the AUX device to control the Solo 5 using the three digit code 460. Then I used the Siri remote to navigate to the remote settings on the Apple TV and was successful pairing the old cable remote. Once I got that done the Siri remote worked again to control volume up and down, as well as mute.
Hope this helps someone else!! Good luck.
