Apple Pencil

Does apple check the serial number from an Apple Pencil when returned? I have 2 apple pencils that look the same and i don’t know which one is the new one. The new i want to exchange for another one because it just never worked. The old one never charged again and that’s the reason why i bought a new one.

Hello Val_bal29,

Thanks for asking about the Pencil Serial.

Yes, it should match the receipt, either bought with an iPad, or bought alone. They will need the receipt and date of purchase to check the warranty status, or if it's the one still under the 14 day return period.

You can find the serial on the original packing and the receipt. The serial number is also available on the Pencil 2 itself if you unscrew the tip and look inside. The other convenient place to find the serial number is:

    1. Make sure you’ve paired Apple Pencil with your iPad. Depending on model, you’ll need to plug it into the bottom of your iPad via Lightning or stick it to the right edge of the iPad.
    2. Once paired, go into Settings > General > About > Apple Pencil.
    3. You’ll now see the model and serial number of your Apple Pencil.

Thanks.
