Apple watch Ultra brightness in low light conditions

I've been using for my Apple Watch Ultra for approximately 6 hrs. This is the first night I've used it.

I've noticed the watch dims on it's own at night. How does one override the brightness of the watch? I don't want it to dim in low light conditions, I want it to maintain the level of brightness.

Please don't send me instructions on how to turn the brightness up. I've read multiples articles on how to do this. It's at the highest level.

For contrast, my series 3 is significantly brighter at the highest setting. (see attached photo).

the watch faces have are very intricate and, for me, require a far higher level of brightness than the low level, ambient default watch settings.

IOS 9.1 installed on the Ultra while IOS 8.7.1 installed on the series 3.

Ultimately, the ultra brightness is low in low light conditions when it should be overridden.

Please advise on how to properly set it.

Same here. It auto adjusts to ambient light level, regardless of setting. The levels it chooses while indoors are too dim for me, can’t read it. Seems an extra wrist flick gets it to full bright, but it subsides soon after again. Returning it tomorrow.

Hello Adrian,

We understand that you've already checked the display brightness on your Apple Watch Ultra, and it's still dimming on it's own. This may be due to the Always On feature. This isn't available on Apple Watch Series 3, so that may explain the difference you're seeing. Use the Always On feature with your Apple Watch has more information about the feature.

"To preserve battery life, the display dims when your wrist is down, or by a quick gesture of covering the display with your hand. A wrist raise or tap on the screen brings everything back to full brightness and makes the watch screen active so that you can interact with your watch."

If you have additional concerns about this, we'd recommend contacting Apple Support.

Cheers!
