The iOS 16 interface is NOT and improvement, but a disaster. It us slow, barely responsive, looks terrible. Cant say it’s a downgrade as old versions were elegant, snappy and intuitive to use. Please let us know what epub reader app you recommend, as you seem not to have a passion for Books (iBooks), but rather have us move elsewhere.

Agreed. Try to get the reading menu button to pop is a nightmare of touching the screen four or five times and then trying to actually tap the reading menu button is close to impossible, especially in the dark (bedtime reading). Please change the end user interface back to the version available under IOS 15. It was functional and easy to use.
