iPhone 13 since O/S upgrade to 16.1.1 where's the crescent moon icon on the desktop to tell me whether I've silenced the ringtone? How do I silence the ringtone?

You can silence the ringtone by using the ring/silent switch on the left side of the phone. See: How to put your iPhone on vibrate, ring, or silent mode - Apple Support


The crescent moon icon is related to Do Not Disturb, not the switch silent mode. For that see the following (can also be accessed via Control Center): Use Do Not Disturb with Focus on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
