Can't properly compose messages at web.whatsapp.com with Apple Pencil

When I access web.whatsapp.com from a browser (either Safari or Chrome) on my iPad Pro, I can't compose messages with my Apple Pencil 2 and Scribble. The first word always disappears, and at least half of all subsequent words disappear too. For instance, I just tried to scribble "This is a long message of many words that I am trying to write." But all that appeared in the message compose box was "is a long message".

Can this be fixed?

Whatsapp is a third party product.

Computer manufacturers do not make their products compatible with every one of thousands of third party products; instead, they issue beta versions to developers so they can make their product compatible with the computer. FRom what I've read, it is advertised to work in Safari's address/search bar.

I cannot comment on either Google or Meta since I refuse to do business with companies whose sole source of income is selling my information.

This is a browser issue, isn’t it? And since this is an issue in Apple’s own browser, doesn’t that mean it’s an Apple problem?

Apple claims:

“Write with Apple Pencil in any text field, and Scribble automatically converts your handwriting into typed text.

Scribble even works when your handwriting extends beyond the edges of the text field.”

Neither of these claims are true. The WhatsApp web app is only one example of many apps and websites where Scribble doesn’t work. And if Meta can’t fix it, how can we expect the operators of much smaller websites to fix it? Surely it is incumbent upon Apple to make it work as they claim it works rather than it to expect others to fix the problem for them?

In any case, rumour has it that Meta are planning to release a version of WhatsApp for noncellular tablets. So there is little reason to expect them to expend resources fixing an iPad-specific problem in a web app when an iPad app is in the offing.

There are a whole raft of things that Google Gboard does far better than Scribble, such as genuinely working in every text field, and allowing precise positioning of the cursor to make corrections with the onscreen keyboard. In Scribble, if I want to correct the spelling or the capitalisation of a word, I have to delete the whole word. That is stupid.
