Thread HomeKit devices not particularly responsive with Mac OS Home app.

I have eight Eve Energy plugs set up with Thread and Apple TV 4K Hub/ Border Router. They respond instantly to requests using Home on the iPhone/iPad/AppleWatch, but there is a noticeable lag when using the Mac OS Home app.

I'm at Ventura 13.0.1 and the Apple TV hub/border router is at TV OS 16.1.1, and iOS/iPad OS 16.1.1.

Is there a setting somewhere that would optimize the performance of the Mac Home app?

Parallels, OS X 10.11

I spent some time yesterday with Apple Support and we tracked it down to an “mDNS” process that may have been corrupted and needed to be force quit. It restarted automatically, and after that the responsiveness of HomeKit on the Mac matched the other devices (watch, phone and iPad).

Hello, sabresoft,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

We want to help make sure that using the Home app on your Mac is easy and seamless. Updating your Mac is the first step we'd recommend so it's great that you're already on top of that. In addition to that, we want to recommend that you test a couple things to try and isolate the issue:

  1. If possible, connect to a different Wi-Fi network and see if the issue is resolved while connected to that network. We understand if you're unable to do this due to the nature of the Home system, so if you're not able to do that go ahead and disconnect from your current Wi-Fi network and reconnect instead. Here is how to do that: How to forget a Wi-Fi network on iPhone, iPad, or Mac - Apple Support
  2. If the issue continues to occur, we'd recommend testing the issue in a new user account to see if it persists. To do that, follow the steps here to create a new admin account: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support. After that, try and test the issue in the new account to see if it is still occurring.

These steps may not resolve the issue in and of themselves, but they should help isolate it and get us on the path to resolving it most effectively.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

The issue has returned, but force quitting the mDNS services in activity monitor didn't cure the problem this time. Operationally this isn't a great problem as I can get instant response using my watch or my iPhone/iPad. Turning off WIFI and using only Ethernet connection made no difference.

Tomorrow I may try the opposite and run WIFI but disconnect the Ethernet.

The strange thing is that if I click a tile on the iMac Homekit there is a delay in response and the tile on the iPhone Homekit does not change until the device responds. When I do the reverse and click on the iPhone tile, the corresponding iMac Homekit tile changes immediately.
