Any Mac that upgrade to Yosemite can upgrade to El Capitan.

I suggest looking at the means to get El Capitan on your Mac. You'll get slightly more compatibility. Sierra if possible is even better because it support the multifactor authentication in conjunction with iPad and iPhone.
