Unable To Connect to Apple ID Servers

This is more of a follow-up to several failed attempts to remedy this by Apple tech support.

Until today, it had been more than two years since I'd been able update my computer, verify my password, or download apps from the App Store. This has been a struggle. Today, I finally figured it out and wanted to share my solution in case anyone else has this issue. I had seen several posts regarding this same issue and perhaps the issue was related to my solution.

If you go into Settings, Network Settings, Advanced, and Proxy Settings...check to see if anything is checked as far as proxy settings. If there are, uncheck them. Then retry accessing Apple ID servers.

The above solved my issue.

I find it amazing Apple tech support was unable to help me with this. I was seriously about to smash my computer to pieces with a hammer and buy a Lenovo desktop setup. I've had to force updates manually, download apps apart from the App Store, and so. This has not been a good experience these last couple of years and no one at Apple could help me.

I hope this solution helps someone out there.

Proxy servers are generally only set by administrators, especially in corporate environments as they help redirect traffic around corporate and educational firewalls.

So naturally if the information for the proxy servers are not set correctly, or are no longer relevant you won't be able to access sites in the outside world.

In the early days of high speed internet, some internet providers used proxy servers to cache internet traffic and provide temporary boosts for frequently visited websites.

Some people use proxy servers to masquerade as coming in from other countries. Be careful though, such solutions can open you to hackers at the proxy sites and may not be as secure as using your own ISPs domain server.

Avoid using them unless you know exactly why you are doing it, and the ramifications of doing so.
