SIM card insert on the 9th Generation ipad

I purchased a Sim card for my ninth generation iPad but I cannot find on the iPad a slot where the Sim card is to be inserted I have already been assigned a phone number for my iPad is there any other way that I can insert or add the phone number on my 9th generation my iPad?
