Red Dot for Missed calls does go away after viewing

The red dot that appears when you a miss call doesn’t go away after viewing the missed calls. Before when you, missed a call the red Dot would not only indicate the number of missed calls, but would also go away after viewing them. The way it’s set up now is useless and prevents you from seeing you missed calls throughout the day. How do you reverse this and go back to the previous settings?
